Alaskan Willow DC's

From beginning to end these pieces are 2 years in the making. The willow must be gathered, bent, and left outside to dry for about a year. Then brought in to dry for another year. In that process, only about 1/4 of the willow switches cut will make it to a finished product. The breakage ratio is extremely high during all phases of preparation.

We have found the finished pieces to be fairly sturdy, though as with any work of art, care needs to be taken when handling/shipping.

All Willow hoops are different. Some will be symetrical, others extremely asymetrical.

Approximately 8"x23"

This is a fairly large Willow DC made for the 2001 Non-timber Forest Products conference. It is strung with sinew, has assorted gemstone chips, and bronze turkey, eggshell turkey, and almond pheasant feathers. The web is decorated with natural pods, fungi, and cones.

Please contact us for availability of sizes. These DC's are all custom work, and price will depend on size, and pieces added to the web.
